#11 - Amusement

Marta, who had arrived late to the party,
Wiped the guacamole off her lower lip only
After she had stopped laughing, saying breathlessly
“Pete, you know, you’re a real clown.”
But she was right actually, because Pete
Was in clown college—partially right,
At least, since Pete had yet to pass his
Props, Gags, and Magic course, and his
Senior seminar on Ludic Theory
Wouldn’t be offered until the spring.
But Marta, smiling and sundressed,
Didn’t need to know all this, Pete thought;
Because comedy is comedy,
And laughs are laughs.

Then again, funnier jokes have been told.
