Alamo

They tried to teach us Texas history
But we had our own battles to fight.
The desert air and blowing dust
Someone got stabbed in the courtyard
Kids without lunch money
Kids without parents
We shared our instant potatoes
And greasy cheese pizzas
But he held my hand
And smelled my hair
Everyone made fun
It was a small victory in a losing war
Our battles were for a kind of freedom
That we never understood
Until now, until we remember
