Sometimes nonfiction doesn't cut it

Reading about dying languages
Revisiting Vietnam
Something about economics
Those small book reviews
I think-- a movie review will do it
Maybe some trenchant TV criticism

Let's spend some time reading
Dear Prudie Dear Carolyn Ask Amy Ask Polly Savage Love Dear Ann Dear Abby Go Ask Anais

I'm moved, I'm sad, I'm compelled, I identify, I wonder, I resolve

But only when I return to that novel
Which I'm almost half-way through
Which is kind of boring, really
In which the protagonist's a prig
And the women are unsatisfying
Do I feel like I'm getting into bed after a long day on my feet
And sinking into a down comforter
And I'm angry, bored, amused, curious, invested,
And utterly enveloped

  1. Yeah!!!! Maximum enchantment/recovery

  2. "something about economics" - precisely how I relate. I love your single-line stanza and the whole poem.
