i. Sonic Constructions

For years I thought they were called morning doves,
And I hated their ceaseless cooing, cutting
Into dreams I never really remembered anyway.
Woo-woo-woo, they say.
Not like sorority girls in gay bars—
That’s from a different time of day.
Now, early mornings, 4—5—6 o’clock,
Are my favorite time of day.
It’s when the cathedral of night
Hews the difference between yesterday and
Today, making space for—
Not difference—
But, maybe, relief, reserve, deferral, delay.
Pleasures are like sleeping partners,
Constant but easily forgotten.

  1. Apologies if something more ceremonial—casting of spells, invoking the spirit, burning some sage—was planned for Day One.

  2. I'd say morning meditations work just as well! :)

  3. Yeah, seems pretty ceremonial to me, actually! I love it--thanks so much for joining us (now I gotta write my poem!)

  4. I did all spells last year, so maybe that's where you're getting that idea? ;) Very glad we have this ceremonial opening "woo-woo-woo"!
