A poem a day in April from Rutgers English PhD students and friends.

There's a word for that feeling you get
When you're an astronaut in space
Looking back at Earth

And you see the whole world at once
And warmth suffuses your chest
(If it weren't so gentle it would have startled you)

And you know it's love for that world you're looking back on
And you know you'd do anything to protect it
For the sake of all that life

And you just want to get back there and feel this feeling
(Though you worry that the warmth will fade like the hot panic that leaves off when you reach once again the bottom rung of the ladder)
But you bring it back with you
And someone coins a word
And you still struggle to tell how it was

  1. "when you're an astronaut in space" -- as if! and yet I love the leap of imagination required.. not so big a leap after all!
