Spell for Reunions

For the party we plan for our
high school best friend
for when he says
he'll come to town

we promise there'll be
a roof, surprise guests,
bleachers, plus ice cream
and frosty mugs and root beer

from our hometown brewery
brought in growlers
from a trendy pizzeria
a couple blocks away.

We don't live there anymore,
Jeff, but we miss you and we're
throwing that party for you,
there is no pathos here

only the satisfaction
of a late-night call well made.
See you in May, with skyline,
rivals, and questions.

  1. Excited when I saw the title of your poem. (Can we have a reunion in May, too? Your "our" and is so inclusive.. ) Bleachers: a must.

  2. Yes, I think Fred is gonna have a cohort reunion in his backyard, heads-up!
