Student Quality

At the coffee shop I graded 1.5 papers,
kept writing great point but how does it connect
to your larger argument
and needs more evidence
even though I was just telling them in section
that this novel distrusts "evidence"
that there are other forms of knowledge

My throat is connected to my nose by a thin tube.
Don and Megan Draper saw their doorman collapse
then saw Hawaii, then saw their doorman collapse
then saw their doorman. I kept pressing spacebar
the image kept crumpling like tinfoil
It feels like I swallowed a kernel of cold tinfoil

I missed a step yesterday on my way to teach
and I keep forgetting and putting my weight on the scab
when I get up from mixing paint on the floor
It goes on like toothpaste, the tube says student quality
but a student is only going to make this paint look worse
They want to remind you in your hands: how bad you are,
how new.
